It is larger than most other stone holders and can fit stones both with and without bases. This version comes with a large plastic base that is designed to keep the water and swarf from sharpening from spreading all over your counter top. Also, it comes with two additional pieces that give a little bit more stone height and knuckle clearance. The additional pieces also allow for you to mount your stone at a slight angle, just like traditional knife sharpeners do in Japan.
